How To Treat Tooth Pain Caused Due To A Fracture?

I accidentally bit an olive pit that was concealed in a store-bought dip and it hurt. I went to the first dentist and he found nothing on the x-ray but sent me home with Ibuprofen 600. He said it would get better in a week, that I just stressed my tooth. The pain was becoming unbearable in my face (near the temple), my ear and teeth. I went to another dentist on friday and with his camera, he saw 2 fractures on tooth # 14 which had an old silver filling in it. He said my 2 options were to see an Endodontist to try to save tooth, or to have it pulled. I started antibiotics and the pain has lessened some. Why do you think he thinks I have to have root canal? I'm only 48 and I am scared to have a hole in my upper teeth. I've taken great care of them and have good teeth but cannot afford a 4,000 implant. What can I do?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain in case due to injury if there is fracture in the Crown portion of tooth there are chances that the nerves are exposed leading to inflammation and pain..

Pain has reduced due to painkillers..

If there is fracture in the root portion it is better to get the tooth extracted..

In case of crown fracture although the pain is reduced but there can be infection and inflammation of nerves due to food lodgement and inflammation can also be due to nerve irritation and it can become activated any time spontaneously and cause pain..

I would suggest you to get the root canal treatment done so as to relieve permanently from pain and save the tooth..

Hope your query is solved..
