Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have just noticed the underside of my 5 year olds tongue is slightly swollen with a little lump and bit black looking round the blood vessel .he doesn't recall when it happened but earlier he did mentioned biting his tongue. He is in no pain. should I do anything?
The symptom or lump you mention in query is probably due to canker sore which occur due to tongue bite . But there can be other reasons also for canker sore ike stress , hot and acidic food , or vitamin deficiency like vitamin B12 and folic acid . I would suggest you to ask your child to do warm saline rinses 2-3 times a day and hydrogen peroxide rinses mix with equal amount of water twice a day . Apply orabase gel to prevent irritation specially before every meal . Avoid hot and spicy food . I condition doesn't get better in 3-4 days then consult oral pathologist or dentist for proper examination and to rule out condition like herpes or mucocele. Doctor may prescribe drugs like sucralfate and antibiotics in case wound get infected .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
