How To Treat Streptococcus Infection With Fever And Blood Associated Vomit?

Hi!my dad was down fever and then suddenly after 1 week vomited blood ..we went for a few tests as suggested by the doctor...the report states moderate growth of streptococcus spp..is there anything serious?? what precautions we should take? his age is 55..

Streptococcus infection can be serious in advanced age and presence of co-morbidities. Go for proper antibiotics with proper dosage like Co-amoxiclav 625 mg thrice daily for 7 days along with azithromycin 500 mg once daily for 5-7 days. Go for a sputum culture and antibiotics sensitivity test to guide your proper antibiotics. For prevention your father may have a pneumococcal vaccination and consult a pulmonologist for opinion.
