How To Treat Severe Dysphagia?

I am a 58-yr old female. Over the last several years, I have periods/days of dysphagia..typically has been first bite for dinner...food gets, "stuck," and I just have to wait it out....My doctor ordered an esophagram for tomorrow morning. Are my symptoms typical of hiatal hernia?...something else? I am considering cancelling the test to see if symptoms progress. Not a good idea? Thank you.
