Hi,

You might be having acute paronychia. Paronychia is an inflammation of the folds of tissue surrounding the nail of a toe or finger. The main factor associated with the development of acute paronychia is direct or indirect trauma to the cuticle or nail fold that happened two days back.

Treatment of acute paronychia is determined by the degree of inflammation. If an abscess has not formed, the use of warm water compresses and soaking the affected finger in vinegar might help. Tylenol can be taken for pain relief. Mild cases may be treated with an antibiotic cream (e.g. BactrobanNeosporin] alone or in combination with a topical corticosteroid.

For severe infection it is important to consult your doctor and get the puss drained out.
