Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am supposed to leave tomorrow for a long awaited trip to Israel but today I went to my Doctor to have a internal painful lump I just found near my anus. Doctor said it is an abscess of some sort and sent me to a anal surgery specialist who informed me it was not connected to my colon but rather to my urethra and possibly my prostate. It has, in two days become quite painful after urinating so I was prescribed the generic drug for Bactrim DS 800-160 (Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim). The pain is getting worse I am concerned over whether or not I should cancel my trip if this is something an anti-biotic cannot deal with correctly. I am scared that I may upset the entire group trip by being too caviler an forcing myself to suck it up and go. Do you think the anti-biotic will relieve the pain (2 a day for 7 days) or will I just have to wait and see. This is a dreadful predicament.
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, if this is the abscess formation ( and seems to be that one as long as the given history is concern ) I would suggest get done the surgery to drain abscess and this is the best way to subsides the pain else antibiotic is not the drug for pain, in this case antibiotic may cause the antibioma which would be even worse for draining the worse so better to get done abscess drain hope this information helps.
