My friend, your husband has acute knee injury. That is most likely sprain. And it s the inflammation of the ligament or the tendon that is causing the swelling and hence pain affecting lifestyle. Your husband needs to have RICE therapy that us rest,ice,compression and elevation. That will help relief the symptoms. If I were your physician I would also prescribe you anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen to reduce the swelling and pain. If still the symptoms persists visit your physician and get detailed examination done. To rule out fracture etc. You can also use accordingly physical therapies and exercises.
