How To Treat Pain In Hip,back And Neck?

I have hip, back, and neck pain. When I sit I can t sit up straight. I have tried stretching but I can t get myself into a position to even stretch. Should I see a physical therapist? I go to a chiropractor but I can t stretch on my own in order to get better.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms might be due to degenerative disc or lumbar herniated disc disease, spinal deformities, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis etc. I advise you to:
- Take pain killers and muscle relaxant twice daily
- Regular exercises for building muscle strength and flexibility
- Maintain healthy weight, as being overweight can aggravate the pain
- Avoid bending or twisting your back, maintain proper poster in sitting and avoid long time sitting
- Avoid lifting heavy weights
- Lumbar corset should be used all the day
- Do Bone scan and electromyography (EMG) to look for compression fractures caused by osteoporosis and confirm nerve compression caused by herniated disks or narrowing of your spinal canal respectively.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
