How To Treat Pain And Discomfort In Neck Along With Dizziness?

I am having severe pain and discomfort in my neck. It feels like I have severe cold shooting down my neck to my back like a wet blanket is on my back from a frozen lake. I am also dizzy and have some nausea. I have had TMJ from a car accident in 2002 and every year it has gotten worse and now I have lost teeth from grinding and from GERD. It is obviously pain from several things but it has gotten so severe I cant handle it any longer but I don t have any insurance. What should I do to resolve this?

Hi,
As you have not mentioned your age it is little difficult to exactly say what may be the cause for your neck pain. You have mentioned about a car accident and i believe your back was also hurt in that accident.Again no mention about the neck injury in the accident. The history here is incomplete.
I'm sorry that you are in pain.If you are in your late 40's then your neck pain is highly suggestive of cervical spondylitis. To rule this out you may have to go for an X-ray cervical spine ,AP and lateral view and consult an orthopaedician .You may have to wear a soft neck collar which will restrict the neck movements and stabilize your neck ,decreasing the pain. The neck pain can also be due to your work, like spending many hours before a computer or laptop with wrong posture.Or can also be due to the injury during the accident. In any case I would advice you to
1. An X-ray of the cervical spine,AP and lateral view.
2. Soft neck collar to be worn during the day.
3. Change of pillow to one that supports your neck.
4. Best positions to sleep would be lateral or on the back.Avoid sleeping on your belly as this puts pressure on your neck.
5. If the pain permits would recommend you to do neck exercises to strengthen the muscles.
6. As you have complained of GERD,would recommend you to use diclofenac cream to be applied on the neck.
7. Avoid sudden movements of the neck
Hope you have got your answers.Thank you.
