How To Treat Ovarian Cancer?

I have ovarian cancer. It was discovered in March of 2013. Stage 3C, They removed approximately 25 pounds of cancer from y abdomen. After surgery I had 6 rounds of chemo. my last chemo was the first of August 2013. Now, 8 months later it has returned and is now in my abdomen and lungs.
If I decide not to have further treatment, how long on average can I continue to live life? I am 54 and otherwise in good shape. I am trying to decide if I want to participate in a study trial or not.

Hi. It is important to know the response of your initial chemotherapy and which drugs were used. If you have good response to initial chemotherapy and Carboplatin/cisplatin was used, then disease recurrence after 8 months of treatment makes your disease platinum sensitive. You can have repeat chemotherapy with platinum containing regimen. It is always encouraged to participate in study trial. If you do not take further treatment the cancer will be progressive. It not only kills you earlier but it will be painful after some time with other multiple problems. With out treatment 50% of patients at your stage will not survive more than 1 year. with treatment 50% of patients survive more than 2 years and 20% survive even more than 5 years. Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
