My 8 year old daughter has been told she has mecenteric adonitus and has been in hospital 3 times in the last 6 weeks with severe tummy pain around the naval and right hand side of the tummy. Could this develop into appendicitis and would she be better to have them removed . I m getting a lot of different stories.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Mesenteric adenitis refers to inflammation of mesenteric lymph nodes.
Mesenteric lymph nodes are the nodes present in abdomen which drain the intestine.
Any infection or inflammation of intestines can lead to inflammation of these lymph nodes.
Mesenteric adenitis do not progress to appendicitis.
Treatment of infection of the gastrointestinal tract is required with appropriate antibiotics.
The lymph nodes take a longer time to resolve but there is nothing to worry.

Thanks and take care
