How To Treat Liver Cirrhosis And Ulcerative Colitis?

i am 28 yrs old girl and liver cirrhosis and ulcerative colitis was detected and treated by the doctors in year 2000. i am under medication and the medicines prescribed to me are mesacol od 1 in mrng udiliv 300mg 2 per day aldactone 100mg 1 in mrng. how long should i take these medicines and i'm thinking of changing the dr due to few reasons. i need ur suggession sir

Hello, I hope you are very well. It is very important to know your antecedent that you have ulcerative colitis because for that reason the cause of your cirrhosis can be a Primary sclerosing cholangitis that is related in approximately 5-10% of the patients with colitis, whose main importance of the early diagnosis of the Hepatic disease is the risk of developing a cholangiocarcinoma.

In your case, if you already have irreversible liver damage, it is very important to determine the etiology, and if it is the case of Sclerosing cholangitis as pharmacological measures should be considered the administration of ursodeoxycholic acid. In addition, it is necessary to perform an ERCP in view of the possibility of finding stenosis in the biliary tract and to perform a paliacion of the biliary tract to improve obstructive symptoms.

This besides the basic management of your ulcerative colitis and the measures for the attention of your cirrhosis, an adequate nutritional management, diuretic treatment with its renal and electrolytic follow up as well as surveillance endoscopies, so I suggest you go with your Gastroenterologist or hepatologist and you can continue your integral management.
