How To Treat Itchy, Bumpy Red Rash Caused After Scratched By Dog?

Hi, is a doctor available to speak? I was scratched by a family dog (i ve already had my rabies vaccination, so don t worry about that) and I ve broken out into a terribly itchy, bumpy, red rash that appears to be getting worse. I ve washed it and applied antibacterial twice daily for 4 days, but it now appears to be spreading. I can only get relief from diaper rash cream and complete airing - is there any way to treat this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to an allergic reaction from the dog scratch.

I suggest using Hydrocortisone lotion for local application.

I also suggest using antihistamines such as Desloratadine to relieve the itching.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
