How To Treat Hyperthyroidism?

My wife was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She then took medication to control it and now has hypo thyroid ism (tsh level of 94). She has been told to stop taking the hyperthyroid meds for now. Will she get back to normal without the meds. She is 50 and was normal all her life until 6 months ago when she started to lose weight and then was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Could it just be part of her changes she is going through?

Endocrinologist 's  Response
dear sir, Hi! welcome to HCM. there is a little confusion. you will have to understand that hyperthyroidism due to graves' ds or toxic nodule does not change to hypothyroidism within 6 weeks. it takes pretty long. so probably we were dealing with thyroiditis. now thyroiditis is an acute reaction which does not need treatment, other than wait and watch and some pain killers probably. so if she has been treated with anti thyroid medicines , they should be taken off and now wait patiently for 12 weeks , recheck the status of thyroid and let us know. regards!
