How To Treat High Blood Pressure?

I am a 57 year old male, height is 5ft 10, weight 17 stone. Have just had a blood pressure reading taken by my GP it was 161/84? He said its a bit high but offered no further options. Is this reading high? and should i have a few further readings taken to see if it is staying high and what should be done then? I have smoked most of my life, average of 50 cigarettes a day, i know this wont help.

If you have only once measured high blood pressure it doesn't mean you have arterial hypertension. There must be several readings for some period.
Besides I strongly advise you to change your lifestyle; stop smoking, exercise and healthy diet. For the prevention and treatment of high blood pressure lifestyle changes are as important as medications.
Hope I could help you. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Wish you good health.
