How To Treat Glaucoma And Cataracts Formation In Eyes?

I am a 46 year old Caucasian man. I recently had my eyes checked because I did poorly on the visual field test and my opthomologist was concerned. My left eye was unable to see much in the bottom right side corner. The doctor did all the tests again and said my optical nerves are thinner than they should be for my age. She said this is abnormal. As well as I have cataracts. I have glaucoma in both eyes. (The bottom vision) However, my eye pressure is at 13, which she said is good. My question is. What are my options for treatment and how did this happen to me? I don t have diabetes, I don t smoke but I do drink alcohol. At least 4 nights a week but I don t get drunk. I have also had many concussions as a child and wonder if that could be enough trama to be a factor. My mom did lose an eye as a child due to a retinal disease called coats. And she has had a cataract removed and macular degeneration. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks steve

Hello,

There are many risk factors for glaucoma,it can be hereditary or idiopathic, symptoms it occurs as result of trauma also but since pressure is normal so it is not indicative of glaucoma and the optic nerve injure may be because of previous traumatic event.

So at present u need to have regular IOP monitoring to rule out glaucoma first along with multivitamin supplementation.

For cataract u need to be assesed if afvanced stage is encountered u need to get operated for it,for earlier stages nothing specific needs to be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
