How To Treat Fibroid?

I am 64 years old with a fibroid that has doubled in size since 2008 -- from 6.7 cm in 2008 to 9.2cm in Nov. 2013 to 9.4cm in March 2014. Being well past menopause, the doctor is concerned that it might be leiomyosarcoma. I do not have any other symptoms. I had an Ultra Sound and Transvaginal US as well as endometrial and polyp biopsies 2 weeks ago which with no malignancy. I am really worried about the possibility of leiomyosarcoma. How likely would this be. I will have a total hysterectemy on Tuesday, but extremely worried about this now.

Leiomyosarcomas of uterus are rare tumours. The incidence of leiomyosarcoma in uterine leiomyomas ( Fibroids) is estimated to be less than one in thousand (0.13 0.29% at the most).
You have made a wise decision about hysterectomy as a growing fibroid in a postmenopausal lady increase our concern especially if you are not on any Hormone Replacement Therapy.
