How To Treat Ear Blockage And Dizziness While Having Eustachian Tube Dysfunction?

I have been having vertigo on and off for months. My left ear felt blocked and I went to an ENT twice. I was told I had Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. I was told to try allergy medication. I have tried different types and combos but none have really helped. My ear felt better most of the time but my dizziness has persisted. Two weeks ago I went over the mountains to Asheville and before I even got there my dizziness was very bad. Since then I have been dizzy every day. I also went to my regular doctor since then and she suggested taking Sudafed along with my allergy medication. I also had a normal MRI done and I know it is my ear. Today my ear feels somewhat blocked again. In the past I have had other issue after flying, going on elevators etc. I also had some problems years ago but I can t remember how it was resolved. I am beyond frustrated and want to feel normal. Any suggestions?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have ear blockage and dizziness while having eustachian tube dysfunction, well there can be many reasons for eustachian tube dysfunction like upper respiratory tract infection, ear wax accumulation, ear infection, sinusitis and postnasal drip. You should

- Take steam twice a day to relieve the congestion .

- Do warm saline gargles .

- Apply dry hot compresses to external ear .

I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist again for proper examination. Doctor may examine with otoscope and order CT scan , throat swab test or viral culture test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) at least for 10 days , decongestants and anti inflammatory . Doctor may also place tubes in ears. For now keep your ears dry.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
