How To Treat Cough In A 55 Year Old Lady?

hi Dr.Skmlit,
My sister has been having cough for the past 3 weeks. She has been consulting the local physicians and have tried some antibiotics. The cough has reduced, but not completely stopped. When she coughs, we can sense that there is congestion. However, no flem comes out. She coughs more when she tries to talk. She is 55 now and physically she is not very strong. The cough is taking toll on her and she gets tired very soon. Kindly advise.

Regards,
Rag

Hi,
From history it seems that she might be having chronic bronchitis with productive cough producing congestion in the lungs.
Give her cough expectorant syrup for few days.
Encourage her to expectorate her cough out.
If require go for x-ray chest and some blood work to come to proper diagnosis.
Ok and take care.
