How To Treat Constipation?

hello my son is 2years old. he is a fussy eater but no more than an average 2 year old. Last nite he complained that his bum was hurting and that he was doing a poo around 6pm. At 7.45pm he eventually did a poo was alot of straining. Inbetween this time he had small outbursts of 'ow'. is my son constipated, if so what i can do for him. otherwise do you know what might be wrong?

Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Since your son is 2 years old, constipation, hard stool, colitis are known to occur and cause such symptoms as you have mentioned.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Straining may be due to hard stools that are difficult to expel or due to anal fissure one gets on such occasions.
Hence I would advise you the following for your 2 year old son.
Give him allowable pediatric suppository to pass per rectum as it may help evacuation.
Mild laxatives allowed in a 2 year old as per directed by the Pediatrician should be continued.
Diet adjustments as per the requirements that give good soft motion and avoidance of the foods and beverages that cause constipation helps further.
Send the stool and blood for tests and get additional medications as per the reports.
Sitz bath in a tub with warm water can help further.
