Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have constant belching, a slight cough and pain just under my diaphraghm which sometimes comes up into my chest - I have also lost my appetite and weight. I have had an ecg, chest x rays and blood test, all have come back fine. Over the past few days, I have noticed a burning sensation in my gullet and back of my throat.
Your symptoms sound consistent with GERD - gastroesohageal reflux disease. I'd recommend taking an acid reducing medication such as prilosec, which you can get over the counter. If this doesn't help your symptoms, I'd recommend seeing a gastroenterologist to check for something called a hiatal hernia. A hiatal hernia is when the lower esophageal sphincter is in the wrong place, and this causes acid from the stomach to reflux back into the esophagus.
I hope this is helpful. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
