Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have developed a cold sore and its on my upper lip. I trimmed my beard but there is still hair in the way. will this prevent it from healing as quickly? should I try to shave it? the skin seems to be way too red and irritated to do so but I want this thing gone by xmas.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. Cold sores will usually start to heal on their own within a few days. But if they cause pain or make you feel embarrassed, they can be treated. Treatment may include skin creams, ointments, or sometimes pills. Treatment may get rid of the cold sores only 1 to 2 days faster, but it can also help ease painful blisters or other uncomfortable symptoms. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
