How To Treat Bug Bite On The Skin?

This morning I woke up with a big bite on my right foot, one on my left shin, left ankle and left foot..they look like a mosquito bite but I live in Pennsylvania where it's been 20 degrees or lower. I sleep on a couch and checked for bed bugs but couldn't find any or any blood marks on the cushions. What can be the bites be from that I got over night ?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

I would keep a possibility of Insect Bite Hypersensitivity which usually happens unnoticed and mostly on exposed parts/ uncovered parts of the body.

I usually treat my patients of insect bite hypersensitvity with a potent steroid+ antibiotic combination cream twice daily for 7-10 days.

An oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine once daily helps symptomatically by reducing the itching and burning sensation associated with it.

take care

General & Family Physician Dr. Polash Sannigrahi's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be due to:
1. Insect bite
2. Fungal infection
3. Urticaria
4. Contact dermatitis

Symptomatic relief can be obtained with:
1. Intake of antihistamine preparations like Allegra
2. Application of topical steroid & antifungal ointment like Clotrimazole.
3. Calamine lotion for symptomatic relief
4. Antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infection.

If symptoms still persist, kindly visit a Dermatologist & get a proper clinical examination done to find the exact cause.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
