How To Treat Breakthrough Bleeding?

I have took Loestrin for about a year now. Before I would just have slight mood swings but my period came quite regularly and I didn't have any major break through bleeding. I stopped taking it for a month, and I ended up getting pregnant. I had an abortion, and I started taking the Loestrin as indicated. Since then I have been constantly having breakthrough bleeding much like a real period every two weeks. It has been 4 months since I started back taking it. Is there anything I can do to stop the bleeding??

Hi,

According to your history the possible points that can help you are:
- After abortion and after restarting the contraceptive pills, sometimes it may take a few months for regularization of the reproductive hormonal levels, and so the menstrual cycles.
- Using the contraceptive pills as per the schedule without altering the time or missing the tablet can decrease the irregularity to some extent.
- During breakthrough bleeding you can use some antifibrinolytic drugs to control the bleeding with your doctor's advice.
- Regular calories burning physical activity can help in regularization of menstrual cycles.
- If the problem still persists better to change to some other contraceptive brand with your doctor's advice.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
