How To Treat Bleeding Caused Due To Nail Fungus Despite Using Ciclopirox?

Yes please, I have has what looks like nail fungus on finger nails and toe nails going on for 2 years. Doctor gave me Ciclopirox to apply and it hasn t done any thing to help. I have been putting peppermint oil on them and at times soaking in vinager. A holistic approach. They do bleed at times. I am a house keeper and Iam in water a lot, (hands), in water a lot. My doctor will not give me any meds. because I have a high liver count. I feel just to get rid of fungus it would be worth risking a problem with liver. I m sure it would be short term. It s very depressing and embaressing having this condition. Any suggestions? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
This is a tough situation. The problem is that these type of fungal infections usually only respond to oral antifungals. Oral antifungals can not be prescribed if you have elevated liver enzymes because it could cause liver damage and even death. I suggest that you try using tea tree oil and see if you can get some relief from that.
Try using cotton gloves inside latex gloves when you are cleaning. Keeping your hands in water makes the problem worse.
Regards
