How To Treat Ankylosing Spondylitis Affecting The Heels Of Feet?
I have ankylosing spondylitis among other things and part of the area it effects is the heels of my feet. But the pain has traveled throughout my foot and the podiatrist can t seem to help me. All they do is fit me with a fitted insert which doesn t work. insaids destroyed kidneys, stomach & esophogas . Do you have any suggestions? David
Hi, Thanks for contacting HCM. Ankylosing Spondylitis can cause many issues, including pain in the feet. Inserts (orthotics) can help reestablish the normal biomechanics in the feet as a good starting point. For my patients, if they are still having generalized pain after this treatment, I will offer a nerve medication, such as Lyrica or Metanx, or a topical compound cream, that has inflammation/nerve medicine mixed into the formula. These are good alternatives to NSAIDS, which can cause stomach irritation. I hope this answers your question. If you have any further questions, I am here to help. Thanks.
