How To Treat An Injured, Painful And Swollen Calf?

injured calf
A little over a week ago, I was standing outside and threw a stick into the trees. My 43-pound dog went after it and took my legs out from under me by basically clotheslining my right calf with her tie-out that she was hooked to. I have a huge bruise and a lot of hard lumps/swelling. It also sometimes hurts to stand on that leg. Do I need to see a doctor for any reason?

Thank you!

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.
From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . Lump might be due to haematoma formation(collection of blood).
You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury.
I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.Beside icing and elevating it, you can take anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
