But self medication can be dangerous. For this she should first consult family physician /Gynecologist. Before the treatment it is important to have examination by her to make sure that the pregnancy is in the uterus and does not have contraindications for the medications. In Medical abortion there are two types of medicines ( anti progesterone and prostaglandin) used for abortion. Medical abortion is about 95% effective. Most women ( 80%) abort within 24 hours of taking the second pill. Some take little longer. After aborting the pregnancy she may have light bleeding for two weeks. Get an ultrasound done after two weeks to make sure that the abortion process is complete. If she has heavy bleeding (soaks 2pads/hour for more than two hours) or if the bleeding persists even after 2 weeks she must see the doctor.
