How to taper off Alprax without causing any side effects?

3 years back i had headache followed by giddiness and drowsiness. neurologist advised to take 5 doses of 0.5mg alprox. got relief and had similar complaints often. started taking 0.25 mg regularly and got better relief. Heard regular intake will cause severe side effects. Trying to discontinue the habit but have no deep sleep and day is going dull without concentrating on work.Here also to add Im 52 yrs old and undergone CABG in 2001. Kind advise please

Alprazolam is very potent benzodiazepiene medicine. Long term effects as well as withrawal effects are alo much.
In your case you are taking only 0.25 mg, that is good thing. It is not so high dose.So you can quit it somewhat easily.
Two options:
You can start a warm cup of milk before 15 minutes to bedtime and after one week you can take half tablet and after one eek of that you can totally stop.

If you find difficulty with this approach and much sleep disturbance is there, you can consult doctor and start clonazepam 0.5 mg for sleep in stead of alprazolam.You can tapper off clonazepam easily.
