How To Rule Out Heart Diseases In A Child?

What are the signs of heart problems in children? Intermittently for a week or so, my daughter says her heart hurts. The pain seems to go away within a few minutes. She also says her heart beats fast (sometime when her heart hurts but not always). I have been checking her blood pressure and pulse (for the last 3 days) with our electronic blood pressure cuff. Her readings are within the normal range for her age; she is 10 years old.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A child may feel chest pain which she may explain as heart pain. Chest pains due to the heart generally happen with exercise and settle with rest.
If she gets chest pain on effort, very likely they are muscular in nature but a visit needed to make sure. Shortness of breath is another reason to see the doctor.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
