How To Rule Out Concussion And What Are The Syndrome Of Post Concussion ?

Hi, I need help determining whether or not I had a concussion. I had a CT scan last week, which was fine, with 2 opinions. Concussions don t show on CT scans though. I stepped backwards to turn, and swung my head to meet with a solid metal bar, and it made a loud noise. I do not remember any immediate signs of concussion; I blanked out for only a second, not enough to lose my feet. Don t remember anything before or after the incident. I think I was having fevers, I vaguely remember dizziness , and only one headache, although I think that was some time afterwards. I m worried about delayed symptoms however. I ve been in a huge daze for the past 10 weeks, since the incident and a G/A a week before, feel like I haven t woken up from something, poor concentration, mental dullness, concrete thinking, DP and DR, anxiety, panic attacks, depression , lethargy , fatigue, feeling detatched from reality, personality changes, never feel properly awake. I was working my way up to distinctions at university, and now I cannot begin a simple essay. I just feel tired and different, No creativity, I m apathetic, emotionally numb, disorganized thinking, and bad forgetfulness, feeling disoriented and dissociated. Insomnia at times, seeing stars, blurred vision , and sensitivity to noise. I don t feel as bright or capable as I did before, and a lowered IQ, less insightful. I know my symptoms are probably psychological, but I m aware enough to know that concussion could possibly have lead to them. I m 19, 49KG, female. I just want to rule out concussion, and if so, Post Concussion Syndrome. Thank you.

Hello.

Thanks for writing to us.

A concussion can cause mental abilities impairment like you are having. Sometimes these symptoms appear late due to late subarachnoid hemorrhage. An MRI scan is advisable for proper diagnosis. Brain edema after the injury also causes such symptoms. You need to consult a neuro physician for proper treatment and to rule out a raised intracranial tension.

I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

Regards,

Dr. Praveen Tayal
