Popping the cyst with a needle is not recommended because it might introduce infection thereby causing the cyst to become painful. Moreover the cyst would reform itself if it is not removed entirely along with its lining wall because the lining wall contains sebaceous glands which secrete all there contents into the cyst and would cause the cyst to reform.
