How To Relieve Pain Caused By Torn Ligament?

I had surgery approximately 8 years ago for a broken ankle and later torn ligament. I fell two days ago and it feels like I may have torn my ligament again as it feels like the ligament is moving around. Should I put ice on ir ot heat to help with the pain until I can get into a doctor?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yeah, this is hard to treat. The ligaments grow/heal slowly if at all. Generally, the advice is to immobilize, ice, and aspirin in the short run.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman
