How To Reduce The Side Effects Of Corticosteroids?

my dad is using betnasol forte i.e betamethasone 1mg for psoriasis as prescribed by his doctor since 2 years (daily night one tablet). now he complaints that if he is not taking that medication for 4 days he is facing the symptoms of weakness, muscle ache, headache etc. is there any alternate to his medication or any thing that can reduce the side effets of corticosteroids pls kindly suggest me doctor.

Hi,
Corticosteroids are those drugs which will conquer the body on long term use and can have many side effects like bone loss, diabetes, weight gain etc.
There are other corticosteroids like deflazacort which will have milder effect on bone, and may be used at reduced doses.
Sudden withdrawal of them can result in adrenal hypofunction and can result in severe crisis and hence should not be done. There are no alternatives to them.
