How To Reduce Swelling After Been Bitten By Horse Fly On Forehead?

Patient was bit by a horse fly on the forehead, the entire forehead became swollen very quickly and has been moving down his face all day. The forehead got better, but his eyes became swollen. Now the eyes are better, but his cheeks are swollen. It seems to be gradually descending. He is 24 years old and there isn t really any redness or irritation accompanying the swelling. Help?

Hi.
As per your case history of horse-fly bite my treatment advice is -
1. Apply ice on the swelling, it will decrease in swelling by constriction of the local blood vessels.
2. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen twice daily for 3 days. It will fasten the recovery and also reduce the pain if it develops.
3. Don't apply any cream or ointment as there is no accompanying itching and redness.

If problem persists beyond 3 days then consult a dermatologist.
