How To Reduce Pain Due To Twisted Spine During Pregnancy?

Hello, I am 20 years old, 5 feet 8.5 inches, and I weigh 165. I am currently 15 weeks pregnant and have been going to the chiropractor every week. Before I got pregnant he said my spine was twisted at the bottom. A week later I found out I was pregnant. I have been going every week to get adjusted so I can move around but it seems to be getting worse. The chiropractor said I would have back labor no matter what I did. How can I make this pain go away without spending money every week?

Unfortunately back pain is common during pregnancy no matter what you do. If you have a back problem already as the baby grows your symptoms may get worse. However I suggest turning to your prenatal care provider for help. You may need to see a orthopedist that specializes in back problems, if you haven't already in your life, to evaluate the "twist" in your spine. He or she may refer you to a specialist for that. In the meantime, if chiropractic adjustments do not seem to help, I see no reason to continue them. Acetaminophen, or Paracetamol, depending where in the world you are, are safe to take for pain during pregnancy in the normal adult dosage. I hope your pain improves and that these suggestions are helpful.

Good luck with your pregnancy, and take care,
Dr. Brown
