How To Reduce Pain And Stiffness In Outer Knee?

In last two weeks I have experienced knee pain. It hurts to squat, the knee becomes stiff after sitting for a few minutes makes it as little painful to extend the knee but once I am up and moving it feels fine. The stiffness and mild pain is usually on the outer knee and some times the knee cap, no sweeping, no visible change in my knee, no redness, not hot to the touch. I also have popping while going up and down stairs, have no idea if that is relevant...
What can I do to get rid of this issue? I have not had any injuries, or falls of any sort. I have never had a problem with my knees before this is the first experience.

Hello, thanks for writing to HCM.
The knee joint is a complex region made up of soft tissues, muscles, ligaments, menisci and bones etc - and you need to be carefully evaluated to see the origin of your symptoms.
I would recommend a complete knee examination by an orthopedic surgeon. You should also get an imaging study - like an Xray/MRI, to see whats going on.
The popping in the knee, pain and stiffness is abnormal and must be looked into.
Till then try to rest the knee, apply an icepack, and take a pain-killer if the pain is significant.
Hope this is helpful.
Take care.
