Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 8 year old daughter is really suffering from stomach pain. She has had two days of diarrhea and vomited yesterday (about 20 hours ago). Her temperature using an ear thermometer is 98.9 She just had explosive diarrhea and is in such pain in the lower part of her stomach that I'm not sure how to help her. Is there something I can do to help ease her tummy? All I have at home is adult Immodium, which I crushed up (one tablet) and mixed in ginger ale, but she is refusing to take anything. Any suggestions? 8 years old, 90 lbs
Vomiting with explosive diarrhea is suggestive of gastroenteritis. Imodium drug should not be given in young children so do not give something you do not know about.
I would advise you the following:
- Give her electrolyte solution to keep dehydrated and give electrolyte solution. - If vomiting persists, then take her to the Pediatrician for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations of blood, stool and urine. - She may need a dose of Ranitidine, Domperidone, Antacid and Antibiotic medicines. - Intravenous fluids may be needed if there is dehydration.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
