How to recover from the acid peptic disease?

My mom is 79. Recently diagnosed with acid peptic disease, but symptoms continue. Mostly upsetting is that it makes her heart flutter, arms and body parts feel weak.....first time went to ER, fearing heart attack. Taking prilosec and tums, at hospitals orders. Can she do better and should she consult a specialist ??? She is not diabetic. No major med, ical issues. Family history of stroke, heart attack.
