How To Prevent Osteoarthritis Exteme Pain ?

Hi Docs, My Father is suffering from Osteoarthritis since last 6 months. His Age is 57 and he faces serious pain in his Knee joints and sometimes in his back. His height is 5 10 and his weight is 90 Kgs. He faces a lot of pain particularly in the mornings but in due course of the day the pain reduces significantly but still it kind off keeps pricking the whole day. It increases when he he lifts something heavy, climbs stairs and stands for a long time. Recently his heel hurts or pricks painfully due to some bony overgrowth under his heel and as a result he cannot keep his foot on the floor early in the morning. Then gradually it becomes ok but it hurts after everytime he rests. He is working on his weight as of now. His eating habits are as follows :- Rice and wheat everyday, Chicken, mutton , fish, beef, egg occasionally but pretty often and one vegetable dish everyday. I would also like to add he does not have an Air Conditioner at his work place and this area where we stay in is pretty hot and humid but we have an Air Conditioner at home and he uses it all the time he is at home especially it is on all night during sleep. Please suggest on any kind of Exercises, Medicines (allopathic, homeopathic or Ayurvedic ) that can significantly reduce this pain. Is it high time to see a physiologist . Please suggest an appropriate diet for Osteoarthritis having a look at above eating habits. Also Please suggest if an Air Conditioner cooling should be avoided. Any suggestions on this would be highly appreciated.

Ayurveda Specialist Dr. Ram Mani Bhandari's  Response
Dear
welcome to healthcaremagic
Ayurvedic treatment is described as following catagories of Diet, Exercise, Herbal remedies
Diet
Fresh cooked and hot food should be consumed in regular diet.
Hot soups of lentils, pulses and meat should be taken with powder of ginger, black pepper and long pepper added to them.
Ghee and oils in moderate amount are necessary in daily diet, as these keep the normal joints properly lubricated and also provide lubrication to the dried up joints.
All the spicy, deep fried and very oily and pungent food recipes should be avoided, since these are believed to cause damage to the degenerated joints.

Exercise
Moderate regular exercise to keep the affected joint mobile and to prevent further damage, should be carried out.
Excessive strain that could damage joints should be avoided.

Ayurvedic Remedies:
Local application of various medicated oils such as Mahanarayan Taila, Bala Taila , mustard oil, etc., is very useful in all arthritic conditions.
Hot fomentation by infrared lamp or heated sandbag should be given immediately after massaging the affected joint with any oil.
Decoction of the roots of ten herbs should be given in the dose of 30 ml., thrice daily.
Decoction of the bark and roots of Deodar tree should be taken in the dose of 30 ml., thrice daily.
Decoction of root of caster plant is also helpful in the dose of 30 ml., thrice a day.
Caster oil should be taken in the dose of 5-10 ml., every day in the morning.
Daily use of the Ayurvedic compound 'Triphala choorna' is recommended to cleanse the colon.
Guggul is a very helpful herb for curing arthritis. It is most specific for cleaning and strengthening the bone tissue.
