Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a 9 year old son, as I saw him getting out of the shower tonight I noticed that his veins in his arms chest and shoulders. I know he has an iron problem but this was a little scary to me. What could be going on and how can I help with the problem?
Hello, This is Dr. Klarida Papaqako answering you question.
Visible veins in children are quite common, because their skin is delicate and thinner.
Although, if you say that he has iron deficiency anemia, then you may notice pale skin in the hand palms, lips and mucous membranes. If I was your caring doctor, I would recommend to do a CBC (complete blood count) then according to the level of Hemoglobin and Ferritin, to start taking Iron. In children it needs at least 3 months of treatment, to fill the deposits of iron in the body.
Hope this helps. Take care.
