Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother is 86 years old and suffering from dementia. She had put out a lot of phlegm on the night of the 6th of August and we took her to the emergency for suctioning but they insisted that she was getting fits and put her into the ICU. She went in smiling and after 10 days in hospital came out in a semi coma. She has been given eptoin 100 twice a day and is sleeping all the time and cannot focus her vision. She has been given a diet of Resource and Diasure milk nasal fed every 2 hrs. now she has loose motions too. Can I reduce the eptoin to 1/2 the dose? any suggestions on her diet? I love her and want her to be healthy and happy till the end.
It is possible to reduce the medication but this should be done only in conjunction with her doctor to avoid any problems that may occur.
In terms of her diet, if she is having loose stool , it is possible that it may be due to lactose intolerance from the milk. You may want to ask her dietician if there are any formulations that would help with this but still help maintain her weight.
I hope this helps
