How To Lower Vitamin B6 Levels?

I have progressing polyneuropathy but am still intact. I have blood serum level of 41 for B6 with a reference range of 3-30. My best theory is that I am antagonizing the myelin sheath on my nerves with the excess B6. I am interested in your thoughts on that and how I can reduce my B6 if you concur.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Stop taking any vitamin B6 supplements, including multivitamins, tablets, soft gels and lozenges. Typical names used in place of this vitamin include Pyridoxal, Pyridoxamine, Pyridoxine hydrochloride and Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate.

Limit your intake of foods rich in vitamin B6, such as fortified cereal, bananas, salmon, turkey, chicken, potatoes, spinach and hazelnuts.

Drink water to help flush excess vitamin B6 from the body. Since this compound is water-soluble, urine is the primary means of excretion. Typically, it takes the body between 15 and 25 days to eliminate unused pyridoxine. Drink eight, 8-oz. glasses of water per day as part of a healthy diet.

Still have any queries please feel free to ask.

Take care.
