How To Lose Weight While Treating PCOD?

Hello Doc. I am a 31 year old/ Female. Married for 3 years. I have 4 challenges facing me 1. PCOD (taking Bigomet SR 1000mg/ twice a day) 2. Conception 3. Continuous weight gain 4. Today s blood report stated Viatmin D3 levels at 13 and TSH at 6.24 (my mother and sister have thyroid and this is the first time I have got high thyroid levels. Is it due to low Vit D levels?) My husband and I would like a baby and have started planning now. Although I weigh 87 kilos and I am 5.8 tall. I am very nervous to have a child because of my weight. My weight has spiralled post marriage by nearly 20 kilos. I have been trying to reduce this since a year, in vain, since my weight loss is pretty slow and anything I reduce I put it back on immediately. I am unable to exercise (lack of motivation, laziness) since I used to be a fitness afficando earlier and now I m unable to work out so much. I joined Dietician s too but couldn t stick to it much. I am worried about high risk pregnancy, too much weight gain during pregnancy. I don t know I should really plan one due to weight issues, but also I can not delay it further. I took 2016 to reduce it but I have not. And also now with TSH. What can I do? Is there any way to control weight gain during pregnancy?? I would not like to put on more than 6-7. Thank You for your time

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Chances of conceiving improves with reduction in weight in cases of persons having PCOD. Hence, it is essential to lose weight along with taking prescribed medications and doing regular follow-up.
It is advisable to lose weight gradually over a period of time. This can be best achieved by means of regular diet and exercise.
Diet you need to avoid is intake of refined sugars and fats. Compensate by taking complex carbohydrates, diet rich in fibres, protein rich foods, fruits and vegetable salads. Totally avoid consuming junk and fast foods.
Exercise regularly by going for brisk walk for a minimum of 40 minutes everyday.
Keep a check on your weight every fortnightly and gradually you should be able to lose your weight substantially.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
