How To Lose Weight When Diagnosed With Insomnia And Anxiety?

My 21 year old daughter has been prescribed sertraline 50 mg; hydroxicane 10 mg and veniafaxine Ex Release 37.5 mg for migraines, insomnia, anxiety and depression. She has put on a significant amount of weight in the last 3 or so years and my husband and I are very worried about her. We think she needs to exercise more and eat a healthier diet. We don t know how to help her or what to do. I would like to schedule an appointment for her at Vanderbilt to get an overall physical and maybe see what is going on.

Hi
Thanks for contacting HCM.

I've gone through your description.
First of all please find out the reason for depression and alleviate or remove it. Depression in such young person is not a good sign.

Second thing about weight gain - It is because of anti depressant medicines Setraline and venlafaxine. Both of them can cause changes in weight. My advice is to consult your treating physician about it either to reduce dose or shift to another antidepressant having less effect on weight.
Alternative antidepressant - fluoxetine, peroxetine.

Regards
Dr. Hiren
