How To Interpret The Following Pathological Report?
Dear Sir,
Please find below the pathological report of my mother-in-law who has been recently operated on the lacrimal gland.
The lacrimal gland has been removed, however since there was a concern on it being malignent, we conducted the test again. Request you to advice us on the basis of the following results.
Nature of material : 1) 1 paraffin block (2255-10 / 152-10) & 1 stained slide (2255/10) of left
lacrimal gland mass
2) 1 paraffin block (H-426/08) of left supraclavicular lymph node
MICROSCOPY:
The left lacrimal gland mass reveals a high grade duct carcinoma.
The left supraclavicular lymph node reveals caseating granulomatous lymphadenitis.
The Z-N stain reveals acid fast bacilli.
There is no evidence of metastasis.
IMPRESSION:
Left lacrimal gland mass : -
High grade duct carcinoma.
Left supraclavicular lymph node : -
Caseating granulomatous lymphadenitis of mycobacterial etiology

1. Yes, there is lacrimal gland carcinoma. It has been excised and there is no evidence of metastasis.
2. The lymphnode shows caseating granuloma and it is confirmatory of tuberculosis.
3. Will require anti-tuberculous therapy. Meet your doctor. Its a notifiable disease and Government provides free good treatment.
