Hi,I am Dr. Robert Galamaga (Hematologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi! I am 70 yrs of age. A blood test done early in the year indicated that my cell count was a little lower than it should be so the test was repeated in April. The result of this test indicated that my cell count was now lower than that of the first test. I have had a further test done today but will not learn the result for a week or so. Is there anything I can do to boost my cell count such as changing diet or taking vitimins? I am 5' 7", and weigh 140lbs. I am on medication to lower BP and also a statin.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Persistent low blood counts could be due to effect of the drugs that you are taking for blood pressure and cholesterol. However, you have not mentioned whether red blood cell, white cell or platelet counts all are reduced or just one or two parameters. Some drugs are known to cause reduction in blood counts ,however, some drugs may cause such effect in some individuals and not others. Consult your hematologist for clinical assessment and review of the drugs which you are taking.
