How To Increase Hemoglobin Count In A Diabetic Post Bypass Surgery?

Hello Doctor, My dad is a diabetic patient, He recently had a bypass surgery, like a month ago. His Hemoglobin level is very low. He is feeling dizzy and tired all the time, Please suggest what foods he can take and wat else to be done to increase his Haemoglobin Count..Please Help

Hi
While iron is better absorbed from heme (meat) sources, non-heme (plant) iron is better regulated causing less damage to the body. High iron foods include clams, liver, sunflower seeds, nuts, beef, lamb, beans, whole grains, dark leafy greens (spinach), dark chocolate, and tofu.
It is always good to consult your bypass doctor as a follow up. however a general physician can also assess the diabetic and blood status.The calories required and diet control has also to be taken care of because of heart operation
He may take over the counter oral iron medicines containing ferrous gluconate , ferrous fumarate after breakfast
Your doctor may prescribe you an prescription medicine, which is desirable taking into account your all ailments,tests
