How To Improve HDL And LDL Cholesterol Levels In Blood?

I just got my results back from my blood work..

Cholesterol of 212 HDL of 37 LDL of 141. I currently take 40mgs of Pravastatin. I am 42yrs of age and weigh 178lbs. What would you recommend the best way to improve these numbers? My mom's brothers both died of heart attacks around the age of 58 and I am wondering if this is a heridetary issue.

Hello
First of all I want to tell you that no doubt you are at risk of high cholesterol level but now a days only life style change can alter whole situation so need not to worry about hereditary factor.
Now main question.
You should be worried but not too much. Your cholesterol is not that high to be very worried . You may easily get back to normal range.
I see similar cases amongst young peoples who visit my clinic. In the first meeting , I advise my patients to go on life style modifications for 3 months .
i retest them again after 3 months & if they continue to high range I advise them medicine .
1 High fiber diet , green leafy vegetables , fresh fruits ( not canned ) .
2 Cut down the processed food , white bread doughnuts , white sugar , pizza, should be completely avoided.
3 A 40 -50 minute physical activities everyday like morning walk or evening walk or a visit to a gym or swimming pool .
Don't take tension , remain away from anxiety .
If still high cholesterol I advise my patient to take a combination tablet "simvastatin+ezetimibe one or two in day . Periodically check after every 15 days .
Hope this will be helpful for you.
