How To Heal Tender, Bruised Tail Bone Caused By A Fall Long Time Back?

Hello,

I injured what I think was my tailbone when I was in grade school. Fell backwards off of a big oil drum type thing, directly onto my bum. I was almost bent in half when I came down, so my tailbone took all of the force when I hit the ground. I'm now 26 years old. I was never checked out by a dr, but I couldn't sit or get up without excruciating pain for a good while, and to this day my tailbone will seem to flare up, and ache. Also, when it does this, the skin on the outside, like where your bum crack starts at the top. Right there in the crease it gets very red and tender there as well. It almost feels as though my skin in split right there, but it also hurts inside. My bone feels bruised, and it hurts to sit down. I just sit to one side until it goes away. Usually in a week or so it subsides.... I have no insurance so it's hard to go get checked out, but thought I'd give asking on here a try. I would really appreciate any insight you could give me! Thanks so much.

Hi there.

You have a condition known as Coccydynia.
The tip of the tail bone in this condition gets inflammed and painful.
In your case it seems quite severe and chronic in nature.

Well. ..the best way would be obviously to consult an orthopedician. But since you have no insurance. ...I'll tell you some home remedies :
1. Hot sitz bath 3 times daily. Take a tub in which you can immerse you tail bone and most of the hip area. Fill it with warm water and sit in it for 15 to 20 minutes.
2. Whenever you sit use an air ring under your tail bone so that thete is no direct pressure on it.
3. Local analgesic gel massage.
4. Anti inflammatory like Etoricoxib if available.

I hope my advice has helped
Good luck
